Weekend Recap

Yeah yeah, I know, it's Wednesday! A little late for a weekend recap, but this weekend was too good to go undocumented!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, our plans to see the fireworks were postponed until Friday.  Ainsley stayed with her Nana on Wednesday night, so Scott, Harper, and I started the fourth off with a lazy morning in bed.  It was amazing!
Later in the day, after some much needed work done around the house, we had Scott's mom and sister/my bestie, over for some steaks on the grill and a little (and I mean liiitle) swim in the pool (it was freezing).  Steaks, cold beer, cheesecake, and sparklers, I can't think of a better way to have spent the holiday!

So I have this crazy fear of sparklers so I make Ainsley shield her hand with a cup! I'm lame, I know!

Friday was the big day for fireworks.  We/Ainsley look forward to this day all year.  We always go with my in-laws down to the park on the lake where they have food stands (ahh the grilled corn), live music, and bouncy houses.  This year, Ainsley got to really enjoy the bouncy houses and she and Scott spent most of the daylight there.  I stayed with Harper and Scott's sisters and took too many pictures!

Harper's first selfie

My camera gets a little wonky as soon as the sun isn't blazing bright!

Harper did great with the fireworks as long as I held her.  She also stayed awake THE ENTIRE time and we didn't get home until 11!

Hope you had a great weekend!

Growly Gus

I just wanted to stop in really quick to say hello!  I have a four page paper due today and I only have about half a page! Ahh! So of course the right thing to do would be to procrastinate all day by going thrifting and follow that up by writing a blog post!
I just wanted to share a little video of my gremlin baby!  This happens every time she eats, and sometimes just for fun!
Happy Saturday folks!

(sorry it's kind of long)

Sleep (or the lack of)

First, let me start off by saying that I am NOT a morning person!  When someone says they wake up at 7 or 8 in the morning, I cringe!  Don't get me wrong, when I had a job outside of the home, I did what most people do and rolled my butt out of bed at an ungodly hour, but I was not happy about it!

You would think that having two children I would be a little more accustomed to waking early...you would think.  However, Ainsley is what we call "an Andrews".  You see, Scott and his family are night owls, even his 66 year old Mom stays up late!  In turn, this means they like to sleep in.  So, we got lucky with Ainsley in that she would sleep until at least 9am when she was a toddler.  People were amazed when I would tell them this!

Well.....fast forward 5 years and now we have little Harper. She not only looks more like my side of the family but unfortunately has inherited their sleep habits!  My parents consider "sleeping in" like 8:30, insane, I know!  Well, this has become Harper's sleep pattern.  She likes to go to be early (again not something we are used to) and she likes to get up veery early!  If you follow me on Instagram you probably saw where Harper was wide awake at 7:30, what you didn't see, was my zombie of a self laying next to her!

Since I am not a morning person, I tend to stay up waaay too late.  Again, something I should have learned by now! However, I tend to be a fairly stubborn person.  Well, last night, I did it again, only this time, Harper's incoming teeth really screwed up her (and my) sleep.  Which means, today I am running on fumes (if you couldn't tell from all of the rambling and this somewhat pointless post!)

If I have to get up at the crack of dawn, at least I am greeted with this sweet face!

Pin It & Spin It

I'm so excited to introduce you to Melissa from Melissa Rey Styles.  She is super sweet and has great style (for both herself and her home!).
Each week we will choose a pin from Pinterest as our inspiration and put our own "spin" on it.
We will also feature a different blogger from time to time to participate in that weeks outfit!
So, if you are interested in being featured leave a message in the comments!

Now, on to week 1 of Pin It & Spin It.  We chose this pin as our inspiration this week!

I approached the outfit pretty literally this week! I bought this skirt last summer and have yet to wear it, so as you can imagine, I was beyond excited to incorporate it into an outfit!

I chose to forgo the jacket, and incorporated the brown in my shoes (which you can't see anyway!).

This outfit brought to you unintentionally by Target!
Shirt: Target
Skirt: Target (old)
Shoes: Target
Watch: Target
Gold Bracelet: F21
Necklace: Avon

I hope you enjoyed the first installment of Pin It and Spin It!  Also, be sure to check out Melissa to see her "spin"!

6 months >> Halfway to too big!

I know I say it every month, but I can't believe 6 months has already passed!
It's a strange thing, I remember when Ainsley was this age I was encouraging her to crawl and walk and talk.  But the second go 'round, I am just trying to soak up every minute of delicious baby rolls, snugs, nursing, everything, and unfortunately it is slipping through my fingers WAY TOO FAST!  I just wish I could pause time for a bit to make sure I enjoy every last detail of both of my girls at this stage in their lives! SO, until that time machine is invented, I will try to capture as much as I can!

What's new with the Harpster:

>>All of that jumping you do (and boy do you do a lot) has slowed your weight gain.  You clocked in at a whopping 16.2 lbs! Not to shabby Missy! You landed in the 55%.
>>Your weight gain may have slowed but that doesn't mean you stopped growing!  You measured 26.75" long and landed in the 90% for length.
>>You are wearing 6, 6-9, and some 6-12 month clothing
>>We have explored several different foods and you seem to have come to the conclusion that you like...food. Spaghetti, chicken noodle soup, broccoli, peas (not pureed, only when you can pick them up yourself), mashed potatoes, and yogurt are a few of the new foods you have enjoyed.
>>You still love to jump and bounce
>>Getting much better at sitting and you roll like a champ!
>>You can balance on your hands and knees but end up in a face plant as you try to lunge forward.
>>You have two adorable, sharp little teeth and working on a few more

>>Oh and you are a thumb sucker! I don't care what anyone says, I think it's one of the cutest things ever!

Some more fun pictures from the last month:

Oh, and THIS is happening:

5 Months, Oh My!

Sheesh!  I cannot believe I am writing your 5 month update!

What's new in Harper news:
You are still my chunky monkey! (and I love it!)
Your legs never, and I mean NEVER, stop moving!
With that said, YOU never stop moving!
You had a to take a visit to the good ole' Doc to get a vaccine and you didn't even flinch!
You still love the jumperoo
You want to crawl so badly but can't seem to get your legs and arms to work together
You are the happiest baby in town!
You hate, with a capital H, peas! (no hard feelings, so do I!)
You really liked avocado, you healthy girl you!
You are still trying to master the upright sit, but you much prefer your attempt at crawling.

Here are a few of my favs from this photo shoot!:

Those eyes, they get me every time!

Rawr!

Oh how I wish this picture was clear!

Nautical

Dress: Ross
Sandals: Target (last year)
Watch: Target
Necklace: Gift
Sunnies:Target

This was another dress that I bought when I was pregnant with Harper and I still love it!  You may notice that when it warms up, my spring/summer uniform is an easy dress and some sort of sandal.  It doesn't really get much easier than a dress (unless you are breastfeeding, which I currently am, and feedings can be a bit awkward if you have to basically pull your entire dress up to access the goods!).
Also, I am still finding silk worms on my body after taking these pictures!  They are EVERYWHERE!

In other random news:
I saw a man walking a pig this morning. Yep, you read that right, walking a pig. on a leash. a pig. Like full on Babe, not a little one!

Also, Ainsley has a loose tooth.  If you are basically anyone but me, this would be an exciting time! Her first loose tooth! For me, not so much!  I can take blood and guts and pretty much anything else, but put a child in front of me and wiggle their barely hanging on loose tooth and I will likely barf everywhere!

WIWW

Dress: Ross
 Wedges: Target
 Watch: Target
Spike Bracelet: Apple of My Eye
Necklaces: Gifts
Black/Brown Ring: Target
Sunnies: Target (I like Target!)

I love this dress, it is so comfortable!  I bought it when I was pregnant (it's not maternity) and wore it all the time.  I will say, if you are expecting, don't go straight for the maternity section.  There are a lot of clothes (like this dress) that can work for a growing belly.  You may need to get a size larger but that will give you something to wear those few months after you give birth and are getting your body back.  There are a few things that you will need to purchase from the maternity section, but for the most part you can buy regular clothes.  It's also much kinder to your wallet!
Luckily, this style of dress was perfect while I was pregnant and it works great now.  It can be dressed up or down and did I mention how comfortable it is?!

Easter Weekend

I have been swamped this week!  I'm not sure whose idea it was to have two REALLY difficult assignments immediately following Easter weekend but they should be punished!

Is it really Thursday already?!  I know it may seem late in the week to do an Easter weekend recap, but I really don't care, I'm going to do it anyway!

Of course, any great Easter weekend starts off by dyeing Easter eggs!

About 6 in and she was done!

The Easter Bunny made his stop!

This outfit! Can she be more precious?!

Ainsley finally obliged to take a photo with us. No one said she had to look at the camera!

Egg huntin' is serious business!

This one, I mean, seriously!

Yarn Easter Egg Garland

I was in a bit of a crafting mood and somehow had a little time on my hands, so I decided to try something I saw on Pinterest (where else?!).

First you will need to gather your supplies:
Liquid Starch (you could use Mod podge if you prefer, I just happened to have TONS of starch laying around from my last project)
Water Balloons
Yarn
and of course an adorable assistant!

Blow up as many balloons as you want.  Cut fairly generous lengths of yarns and soak in a bowl of starch.  Allow the yarn to soak for a minute then start wrapping it around the balloon.

Make sure there is plenty of starch on the yarn (not dripping wet but close). When you are done wrapping, set all of your balloons in a single layer in a well vented area and let dry.  I left mine to dry overnight.  Once the yarn is COMPLETELY dry, pop the balloons.  From here you can string them on more yarn and hang as garland like I have done, or they also look cute in a bowl or vase!
I love how they turned out but unfortunately it didn't really photograph as well as it looks in person!

Have fun and Happy Easter!

Fool me once!

If you were to look at these pictures you would probably assume a few things.  One, that it was pretty warm outside, I mean I am wearing a skirt, and two that I am wearing these sunglasses for the sole purpose that they were intended, to keep the sun out of my eyes.  Well you my friend would be wrong!  It is NOT warm outside!  See, I had the same assumption for the past two days, I woke up to a beautiful sunshine and just knew it was going to be warm.  I got up yesterday and put on some jeans and a short sleeve shirt (no jacket), got Ainsley ready for school, jacket and all (?), then stepped outside and froze my buns off!  Not today, I'm on to you weather, and your tomfoolery!  I may be wearing a skirt here but I am also wearing leggings underneath!  Fool me once, shame on you!

As for the sunglasses, well little miss Harper has started flipping from her back to her belly when she is going to sleep, yet she can't seem to get to sleep on her tummy.  This has lead to several night awakenings, just when I got used to sleeping through the night!  It's like her whole body is against me! I go in and flip her onto her back, insert paci and sneak away, only to have her immediately grab said paci pull it out of her mouth and flip back to her belly.  It's like her body has a mind of it's own because it is clear she does not like any of it!  This ends when I finally turn down the monitor and let her figure out how to sleep on her tummy.  Which she does, but only after putting up a pretty big fight!  So the glasses are not only for the sun (which is hopefully here to stay) but also to hide the ginormous bags under my eyes!
Sweet, sweet relief!

I got a pocket, got a pocket full of sunshine

I'll be honest with you, I don't care for that song but it is stuck in my head so I thought I would invite you to silently(or loudly whatever floats your boat) sing along! The only reason I even listen to that song is because of Emma Stone in Easy A, hilarious!

This is what I wore this past Sunday.  Obviously, being St. Patrick's day I had to get my green on.  I love this shirt from Old Navy, it's so comfortable!

On another note, it's Spring!! Unfortunately, here in NC it doesn't really feel like Spring this week with highs in the 40's and 50's. BOO!

I decided to try something I saw on Pinterest.  The "pin" said that you can grow celery by simply placing a used stalk (just cut about two inches up from the bottom) in a little water and set it in the sunlight.  I was a bit skeptical but decided to try it anyway and holy crackerjacks it worked!  Ours has been growing for about two weeks so I moved it into some soil and hopefully in a few weeks we will be able to eat some!

Happy Spring!
